Notification of Change Level 1

Swagelok has earned a reputation for unmatched quality and consistency at the component level. We are committed to maintaining this reputation while continuing to grow and improve our product offering. At times, this requires changes to the form, fit or function of our core products. 

This Level 1 - Notification of Change sets forth changes to one or more of the products you may have purchased from Swagelok or an authorized Swagelok sales and service center. Prior to release, each change listed was carefully evaluated in accordance with the Swagelok Quality System, to minimize impact to you, our end customer. 

A Level 1 Notification relates to an applicable* change impacting Form, Fit and/or Function ("FFF") or the cosmetic appearance of a standard product. "Standard product" is any product that does not include a customer specified product or process attribute and can be purchased by any customer. This includes off-catalog product that can be assembled through designators, assemble to order ("ATO"), make to order ("MTO"), product produced by other means.

Unless otherwise noted, all changes are rolling changes and will take some time to flow through our global inventory. If you have questions regarding the impact of this change on your applications, please contact your local authorized Swagelok sales and service center representative. They, along with regional technology centers, and trained field engineers, are available to assist you.

The Following Level 1 Changes have been implemented:   


Effective Date: September 2017
Product Name: Diaphragm Valve Electronic Actuator-Position Sensor
Description and Reason for Change:

In September 2017, the electronic actuator-position sensors factory-assembled to certain diaphragm valves began changing as stated in the notice released in May. There is an update to the sensor that will be used on ALD3 valves with process sheet 24264.

For process sheet 24264 only, the connector boot will be translucent with the onboard LED embedded in the boot, rather than having a black connector boot as previously stated. Performance and functionality of the sensor will not change. There are no changes to product ordering numbers. New sensors will be put into use as current stock is depleted.

Product Name: Brite Dip Process Change - Brass Fittings (Shapes)
Description and Reason for Change:

The brite dip process Swagelok uses to prevent tarnishing and corrosion on brass shapes fittings (elbows and tees) is changing to one that is even more environmentally friendly than the current one.This will further reduce hazardous waste and chemical usage, while continuing to provide corrosion resistance that is equal to or better than the previous process. In addition, the new process aligns with the one used for straights and hardware thereby providing a uniform appearance when assembled in the same system.

You may notice a slight change in appearance as brass products treated with the new process produce a uniform satin finish. Implementation of the new process began mid-September 2017. Product will transition over time as current inventory is consumed using a first-in, first-out (FIFO) basis. During the transition period you may see components that have been processed through both methods within an order or assembly.

Product Name:
High Purity Components and Fittings
Description and Reason for Change:

In July, Swagelok began adding a product ID to Five Language Packaging of High Purity Components and Fittings in both barcode and text form. This impacts the five language bags used to package SC-01 cleaned high-purity components and fittings. Assembled valves are not affected. This is a part of the continuing effort to to allow for additional confirmation of each bag’s contents and improve the record keeping accuracy for each order. Similar to the addition of the product ID to VCR®, VCO®, and Quick-Connect component packaging earlier in the year, this aligns with Swagelok’s continuous improvement initiatives and inspection goals while supporting quality planning.


There are no other changes to packaging or product. Expect mixed shipments of both package markings until the previous style packaging stock is depleted.

Product Name:
Piston Assembly Change To BSH4, BSH6, and BSH8 Regulators
Description and Reason for Change:

As part of our continuous improvement effort for RHPS regulators, we have made a change to the piston assembly used within 1/2 in., 3/4 in., and 1 in. high-pressure, general-purpose, spring-loaded back-pressure regulators. The change is to a larger piston screw and shorter piston, depicted below. Additionally, the piston screw will now be manufactured from Alloy 2507, adding robustness for the demanding applications where high-pressure RHPS products are used. The overall piston assembly size will remain the same and is backwards compatible with existing pressure regulators.

Effective immediately, BSH series regulators in 1/2 in., 3/4 in., and 1 in. sizes will be assembled and shipped using the new piston assembly.

Product Name: Corded Tube Cutting and Facing Tools

Description and Reason for Change: 

The tube cutting tool, TC72 series, will have two visual changes – the fixture block color will change from teal to black and the handle color will change from green to black. The handle color of corded tube facing tools, TF16, TF24, TF40, and TF72 series, will be changing from green to black. Cordless models are not affected. Product performance is not affected by this change.

Product Name: Snoop Liquid Leak Detector

Description and Reason for Change: 

The design for the 2 ounce Snoop bottle has been changed to provide improved seal integrity and an appearance aligned with the 8 ounce bottle, updated in 2016. The plug, tube, and cap will all be the same components used with the 8 ounce bottle. Old style bottles will be used until stock is depleted. The packaging will change accordingly to accommodate the new footprint of the bottle.

Product Name: Diaphragm Valve Electronic Actuator - Position Sensor Change

Description and Reason for Change: 

Beginning in September 2017, the electronic actuator-position sensors factory-assembled to certain diaphragm valves will be changing. Sensors used on ALD3E and DPE valves and process sheets 30426 for DP and DF series valves and process sheet 24264 for ALD3 valves are affected. The previous sensors will no longer be offered by our supplier. Both styles of connector, short pigtail (-S) and long cable with flying leads (-SL), are affected. 

New sensors from the same supplier have been tested and will be put into use as current stock is depleted. Performance and functionality of the sensors will not change but you will see changes to the cable exit, from crimped to potted, and in some cases in the position of the LED. In the case of the sensor used with process sheet 30426, the maximum ambient temperature will change to 70°C (158°F) from 85°C (185°F). There are no changes to product ordering numbers.

Product Name: FJ Series Hose - 1/4 and 1/2 inch End Connection Assembly Process Change

Description and Reason for Change: 

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, the assembly process for FJ Series hose 1/4 and 1/2 inch end connections is being converted from a manual weld to an automatic weld process. This will better assure product quality and improve delivery. This process has been in use on the FM and FL series for over 20 years. All 1/4 and 1/2 inch size end connections will be changed to the automatic weld process, with the exception of assemblies with CRN certification or Toste end connections. End connections in other sizes will not be affected.

There is no change to the product’s performance but you will see a visual difference. The change will be implemented as a rolling change beginning in the second quarter, estimated to complete in the third quarter.

Product Name: VCR® and VCO® Nuts and Glands, VCR Gasket Packaging

Description and Reason for Change: 

Swagelok has added a product ID in both bar code and text form to the bags used to package individual VCR® and VCO® nuts and glands and VCR gaskets. Addition of the product ID adds an extra step of assurance to confirm each bag’s contents plus improves accuracy of record keeping for each order. This aligns with Swagelok’s continuous improvement initiatives and inspection goals and supports quality planning.

The bar code has been in place on packaging for VCR and Micro-Fit® fittings since 2015. There are no other changes to packaging or product. Current packaging materials are still in the supply chain so expect mixed shipments of both packaging styles until the previous style packaging stock is depleted.

Product Name: Swagelok Hose End Connection Through-Hole

Description and Reason for Change: 

As part of our commitment to continuous improvement, Swagelok is streamlining the manufacturing of some hose end connections with a stepped inner diameter (ID), revising the machining process to allow for a single through-hole. A new through-hole design will be an allowable machining procedure for some end connections that do not have a defined maximum wall thickness, such as tube adapter end connections. The through-hole will not be any smaller than it was on the original machining platform.

As production volumes fluctuate, there will be times when the current stepped ID is produced due to a shift back to the original machining platform. The step is not required by the design specification of the end connection and its removal will not affect product performance. The result will be improved responsiveness to customers’ needs.

The affected product series will primarily be the PB series rubber hose, but could also be:
T Series, B Series, X Series, S Series, C Series, N Series PTFE, W Series, F Series, U Series, NG Series, 7R/8R Series, 7N/8N Series, 7P Series,  HC Connections


Effective Date: 3/1/17

Product Name: Plug Change for 50M Model Stainless Steel Miniature Gauges

Description and Reason for Change: 

The case plug of the 50M model pressure gauge will be changing from the current material of Elastollan® 1185 A, Shore A 75 +15 to Elastollan C 85 A, Shore A 75+15.  The color will change from gray to black.
Gauge and plug performance is not affected by this change.  The new plug is already in use on other Swagelok gauges.

Product Name: Country of Origin Change for Thermoplastic Hose

Description and Reason for Change: 

The supplier of thermoplastic hose for the following series – NG, 7R, 8R, 7N, 8N, and 7P – has relocated their production to a facility in Mexico. Final assembly of end connections will remain in Solon, Ohio, however, please note the country of origin for this product is now Mexico. Effective February 1, product shipped shows a country of origin marking on the outer diameter of  “Made in Mexico”.
There will be no change in product quality or performance. The hose will use the same materials and meet the same quality specifications and standards as previously produced product.  It is being produced on the same equipment following  the same standard work as before the relocation.

Product Name: Actuated Bellows and Diaphragm Valves – Actuator Appearance

Description and Reason for Change: 

Effective immediately, you may receive actuated bellows and diaphragm valves with variation in the actuator cylinder and cap color. The color may range from a matte grey to shiny aluminum. The variations are only cosmetic. All of the aluminum raw material is within specification, but there is a batch-to-batch variation in color after the aluminum is anodized. This has no impact on the performance of the valve.

Product Name: SCF Filters – Temperature and Differential Pressure Ratings Reduced

Description and Reason for Change: 

Effective immediately, the pressure differential rating and the temperature rating for the SCF Filter have been reduced by the supplier. In the table below, the pressure differential rating at 37°C (100°F) has been lowered from 2500 psig (172 bar) to 145 psig (10 bar). The temperature rating has been reduced from 200°C (400°F) to 50°C (122°F).

Product Name: VB03 Series Process Interface Valves - Actuation Torque Improvement and Change in Temperature Rating

Description and Reason for Change: 

In an effort to continuously improve the VB03 series valve, the seat has been redesigned to reduce the handle actuation torque at lower temperatures. In conjunction with this change, the minimum and maximum working temperatures of the VB03 valve for select bore sizes and pressure class combinations are impacted. 
Previously, the working temperatures for bore sizes of 1 in. (25mm), 1 ½ in. (38mm), and 2 in. (50mm) were:
■ –58 to 400°F (–50 to 204°C) for stainless steel and duplex valve assemblies
■ –50 to 400°F (–46 to 204°C) for carbon steel valve assemblies

Product Name: Swagelok C Series Hose 1/2 inch Size

Description and Reason for Change: 

To improve our supply chain and enrich customer experiences, we are changing suppliers for the 1/2 inch size of our C series hose product. (C series hoses come in sizes up to 2 inches.)  All performance testing and dimensional comparisons of the previous and the new supplier’s products have been completed. 

Changing suppliers has resulted in some minor changes to the physical appearance of the hose; however, the performance of the new hose remains the same as the current hose:
  • Very flexible, medium-pressure hose.
  • Helical convoluted bore PTFE core for higher flow rates and better drainability (CT)
  • Helical convoluted, carbon black-filled PTFE core for static dissipation (CC)
  • Summary of changes to the stainless steel braid.

Product Name: Swagelok® IPT Series Proportional Relief Valve

Description and Reason for Change: 

The Swagelok IPT series proportional relief valve has been improved to enable the valve to be used in applications that experience up to 500 psig (34.5 bar) back pressure. Additional O-ring seals have been added as per the catalog. This improvement prevents fluid leakage into the atmosphere for a safer environment. The following changes go into effect immediately.

  • Ordering number change to distinguish old versus new valve designs
  • Backpressure Rating:  500 psig (34.5 bar)
  • Maintenance Kits will be available for old and new designs per updated catalog MS-02-472

Old Design versus New Design: Additional O-ring seals have been added to prevent shell leakage.
