Whenever stainless steel is exposed to chloride concentrations and stress levels, Chloride Stress Corrosion Cracking (CSCC) can occur. While no stainless steel can be completely immune, Swagelok’s Alloy 316 Stainless Steel fittings have performed exceptionally well in testing. That can make Swagelok's engineered solutions for installations exposed to seawater both corrosion-resistant and cost-effective.
Extensive CSCC testing compared the performance of 316 stainless steel nuts from Swagelok and eight other brands. Swagelok's nuts were the only brand to pass all tests. All other brands had nuts that cracked (39% of the non-Swagelok nuts), with 2.7% failing during the test completely. View the test results.
