Your Authorized Swagelok Product and Service Center

Swagelok offers a variety of efficient pressure regulators that, along with other flow control products like gauges and transducers, help you maximize and measure the productivity of your fluid system.

Flow Curves
To select a pressure regulator, flow curves will allow you to select the option that works best for your requirements. Learning about flow curves ahead of time will make it easier for you to review your options with the Swagelok technical specialist. Learn about flow curves here.

Flow curves show how the regulator will perform based on changes to the flow in the system and the outlet pressure. They can reveal the ideal operating area and potential for droop, choked flow and seat load drop or lock-up, and more.

What you want, then, is a regulator with a relatively flat flow curve in the range of pressures and flows where you intend to operate it. Each Swagelok pressure regulator has its own flow curve. Look at the conditions under which you plan to operate the regulator, and mark them right on the flow curve graph. If your numbers are far to the right or left where the line is no longer close to flat, look for a regulator model that is better suited for your specs.

Regulator Selection
To select a regulator, here are the major considerations. Inlet pressure, Outlet pressure and system media are the most important. Our technical team can help you to understand these requirements:

1. Regulator function
        1. Pressure-reducing
        2. Back-pressure
        3. Changeover
        4. Vaporizer
        5. Tank blanketing

2. Inlet Pressure Range - Match to maximum supply pressure
3. Pressure Control Range
        1. Match maximum outlet pressure - Your flow requirements may dictate a higher control range
4. Flow Requirements (Use flow curves)
5. System Compatibility
        1. Materials of construction for the body, diaphragm, seat and o-ring
6. System Functionality - Helps in determining venting options and accessories
7. End connections, porting, and mounting
8. Ancillary components
        1. Upstream filtration
        2. Isolation valves
